Day 47: Putting the Authority Website Building Game Plan in Motion
When I look at all of the websites I want to turn into “authority” websites, it’s no surprise that I’ll be involved in a lot of content writing, a lot of backlink building, and a lot of creative branding. Consequently, without a detailed schedule, I’ll be doomed to fail. Therefore, I’ve decided to attack each authority website separately, getting it off the ground over the course of the next 18 months, with each website receiving 8 weeks of my full-time attention towards building a solid fountain before moving on to the next website.
To get the ball rolling, I’ve decided to go ahead and start with the website that is the most neglected: authority website #8. To be honest, I had every intention of getting rid of this website, but I’ve decided to keep it and actually put some time and energy into it since it has been a faithful Amazon and Adsense earner even when I didn’t update it. It does have great potential, but because I felt I couldn’t do much with the “weight loss niche” due to my narrow focus (…boy was I wrong…), I didn’t put too much effort into it.
However, I’ve went ahead and researched 56 HOT topics that will serve as my content for the next 8 weeks. Now that I have the “keyword research” out of the way (and I say that loosely since these aren’t exactly keywords, but product names/descriptions), I can focus solely on content creation and intense backlink building given that this is an aged domain.
The Game Plan
In the past, I failed many times at getting a website to become a true success because I didn’t establish a game plan, and consequently, I was all over the map in terms of what to do next.
This time around, I’ve developed a to-do list / schedule to help keep me on track:
|
Monday |
Tuesday |
Wednesday |
Thursday |
|
1. Write (3) 500-800 word posts around main keywords and upload |
REPEAT |
REPEAT |
Backlink building day only
Includes: |

2. Write (3) posts for marketing new content. |
REPEAT |
REPEAT |
RSS feed creation & submission
|
|
3. Bookmark new URLs to 2-3 bookmarking websites each. |
REPEAT |
REPEAT |
SEnuke run |
|
4. Create RSS feed from properties. |
REPEAT |
REPEAT |
Blog Commenting and/or other method of promotion. |
|
5. Create 30 new profiles (accounts only). |
(let new accounts sit) |
Add links to profiles created on Monday. |
Social bookmark profiles and/or ping profiles. |
|
6. Magic Article Submitter run – drip fed over the course of a week. |
REPEAT |
REPEAT |
Ensure all (9) new pages of content have been backlinked. |
…while this is certainly the condensed version of how I plan to attack my authority website challenge, it is definitely the foundation of what will occur each day.
Beginning Stats
- PR 1 domain; 2 years old
- 269 backlinks according to YSE
- Sits on pg.4 of SERPs for its main keyword (or the #37 position for its plural keyword and #63 position for the singular version of the main keyword)
- Averages 20-50 visitors per day
- Alexa rank of 6,238,168
- Averages $30 per month in income
- Last updated 2 months ago
As you can see, this domain needs a lot of work, but I have no doubt that within 2 months time, things will turn around.

Wow, I’m really impressed by your organization! I sometimes attempt scheduling like this but it quickly falls apart for me. I think your plan of building up more authority sites is going to really pay off for you in the end!

Michelle,
Creating a schedule is the only way I can actually get something done — or at least give myself an idea of what needs to be completed for the day.
If I don’t start seeing results, then at least I know its a flaw/error in what I’m doing and not for a lack of actually putting in the work.

I am so glad you posted this!
I too am focusing on building up several of my niche sites into authority sites – and I’m totally overwhelmed!
It is so hard for me to stay focused on one blog at a time (feel like I’m putting my eggs in one basket so to speak). But seeing your plan has really got me thinking. I’m gonna give this a try. Thanks again!

Hi there Lisa,
Thanks for dropping by!
To be honest, you really don’t have to put all of your eggs in one website basket. In fact, I plan to use Fridays as the day to focus on my other websites that still need fresh content. I figure four days per week on my authority website should be enough to get it out of the trenches and from then on I just plan to add one new page of content per week.

Yes, I totally agree. As long as the majority of my time is focused on making a big dent on one blog then I can continue to post content or backlink other blogs as well.
I think my major problem is not focusing long enough on any one blog and therefore I’m not seeing the results I want. ;(

I understand completely about not focusing on one blog/website too long! …that’s exactly why this first authority website needs so much TLC.
I’ve seen how well it can perform in its current ‘neglected’ state, so I have no doubt that my earnings will only increase as I dedicate more time to it (…or at least the 4 hours per day I set aside).
